Maritza Campos weathers storm!

Maritza Campos just reported on her forums that Merida took minimal damage from the storm, without a loss of power, water, or phone/internet services. Twice in her memory Merida has been hit with Category 5 hurricanes; Emily had lost enough power to be a Category 2 hurricane, and also had its eye pass north of Merida itself (from the looks of weather reports).

She, her husband, and her newborn baby daughter (Nadia) are said to be doing fine and thanked all the people who prayed and who wished her safe and well.

In other news, I was unable to finish the large Sunday review. I apologize for that, as I've not been feeling well due to a nasty little summer cold. However I do plan on getting up a Monday review in a little bit (though I keep hearing rumblings of thunder in the distance so don't be surprised if it's delayed a little). If I get the Sunday review done in the next day or two I may pro-date it to Sunday and post a link letting people know it's done. Otherwise it'll be up next Sunday.

Thanks, and sorry for the delay in reviews!

Brakes? We don't need no steenking brakes!

Showing that I do in fact check my message board from time to time, today's review is of a rather amusing little cartoon called "Turnsignals on a Land Raider" (which is a big nasty tank used in the tabletop war game Warhammer 40K.

You don't really need to know much about the game. It's your typical science fiction war game with overpriced models put out by a greedy corporation that has no problem with gouging its fans for more and more money, and no doubt in another five years Games Workshop is going to put itself out of business due to its sleazy marketing practices. (Then again, we also used to say that about Microsoft, and we all know where Bill Gates is today... laughing it up all the way to the bank.)

Sorry about that. I'm a bit bitter about the fact GW has raised prices on most of its models by $10 a box in the past couple of years (a 25% increase in cost, sometimes more). In fact, quite a few fans jokingly refer to it as the "Crack of tabletop wargaming" and suggest that the police should start cracking down on the gaming stores selling GW products.

The characters of the comic are the actual game pieces. They know they're game pieces, and they also know that they weren't put together by the most... skilled of people. They constantly lose battles, they get misplaced, left behind, and broken, and they just shrug it off and continue to have fun playing the game.

Needless to say, there's not much storytelling going on in the comic. It has a bunch of shorter stories, but there's not much in the way of plot that you can have with a bunch of toys. I mean, they're not going to save the world or anything. (Well, except from each other. *chuckle*)

So if you're into Games Workshop or even just tabletop wargaming in general, you'll probably have a few chuckles reading this comic. If not... try reading it anyway, you might enjoy it if only for the situational humor.
